Ready for a hoop marathon

Just about ready for tip-off (3 p.m.) at the XL Center in Hartford where the No. 18 UConn Huskies take on in-state rival Yale in men’s basketball.

We are going to celebrate the start of the regular season with a mini-marathon of hoops. When this one is over, and interviews have been conducted, I’ll be jumping in the Maxima for a drive out to Storrs for the big showdown between the top-ranked UConn women and No. 3 Stanford at Gampel Pavilion.

Tuesday morning is an early call. I’ll drive up to Amherst, Mass., to see LSU take on UMass at 11 a.m. Look forward to seeing my good buddy Randy Rosetta as he arrives from the Bayou to cover LSU for the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Then it will be back home for some evening TV watching with the Champions Classic from Chicago. Some great early season matchups there with Michigan State taking on Kentucky and Kansas facing Duke. That could be the 2014 Final Four.

Happy Hoops!
