Does UConn have a starting QB yet?

Is today the day UConn football coach Bob Diaco names his starting quarterback? Could be. The world should find out if the decision has been made late this afternoon or early this evening when Diaco meets with reporters after the first media availability in a week.

Diaco has said since April that he wanted to make a determination regarding a starter by two weeks before UConn’s Sept. 29 opener against BYU at Rentschler Field. With the game on Aug. 29, that means Diaco might have made his decision Friday or over the weekend.

Last week Diaco said it was too close to call. He also figures two of the quarterbacks will get playing time in the game – but everyone wants to know who the starter will be.

As a reminder, here is how Diaco broke down the three candidates – Chandler Whitmer, Casey Cochran and Tim Boyle – at American Athletic Conference media day. Who’s the favorite? There’s no way to say, given the media’s limited access to practice.
