With no Boat, Huskies sink in first round of NIT

STORRS, Conn. – The ending was much different from last season. The final game for the UConn Huskies in 2013-14 featured a confetti shower at the Final Four in Arlington, Texas. There were smiles and hugs on the championship podium and the NCAA trophy to hoist high and bring home to Storrs.

Wednesday night at Gampel Pavilion dug themselves another big hole and couldn’t come back for the victory. The 2014-15 season ended with star guard Ryan Boatright in street clothes, unable to play because of a left shoulder injury. Arizona State jumped to a 16-point lead and held on for a 68-61 victory in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament.

End of the season for UConn.

In yet another display of inconsistency, the Huskies simply couldn’t match the spark of the Sun Devils.

Time for UConn to regroup, focus on the offseason and set goals to become better next season.

I was called in to write for The Associated Press Wednesday night. Click here for my AP game story. More later on Boatright’s disappointing finish at UConn.
