UConn receives signed letters from 20 football recruits

Wednesday was National Signing Day, a day that everyone in college football anticipates. The UConn Huskies received 20 signed letters of intent in coach Randy Edsall’s first signing day since returning to Storrs.

Some of the recruits came on under previous coach Bob Diaco and the remainder were recruited under a short flourish since Edsall began in early January.

Below are the biographies of all 20 recruits, as provided by UConn:

Darrian Beavers: Linebacker | 6’4” 215 | Colerain HS | Cincinnati, Ohio
Played for Tom Bolden at Colerain HS as a safety and WR. Was a scholar athlete. Three- year recipient of the Varsity Starter Award. Senior year recognized for being a 4.0 GPA student. First Team All-Conference on defense in 2015 and 2016. Team finished runner-up in States in 2016, after finishing season undefeated. Three-time GMC Champions. Also earned varsity letter in basketball and track.

Brayden Brown: Safety | 6’1” 193 | Fort Hill HS | Cumberland, MD
Helped lead high school team to four-straight state championships. First Team All-Area Defensive Back sophomore year. Played on both sides of the ball, offense (running back, wide receiver), defense (cornerback). Also played basketball, leading the team in scoring 2014-2015.

Garrison Burnett: Wide Receiver | 6’0” 190 | Maret School | Washington, D.C.
Burnett played quarterback and defensive back in high school. Compiled 3,000 offensive yards (1010 passing, 1951 rushing, 15 receiving) and 35 touchdowns his junior season. Senior season 1370 passing yards, 2218 rushing yards and 154 receiving yards. Posting 49 touchdowns.

Ryan Fitton: Tight End | 6’5” 240 | Staples HS | Westport, CT
Lettered four years at Staples High School under head coach Marce Petroccio. Three-time First Team All-FCIAC. Three-time First Team All-CHSCA. Three-time First Team Class LL All- State. Senior year named a captain. Walter Camp Foundation All-Connecticut Football First Team. Second Team USA Today All-Connecticut Team. New Haven Register Second Team All-Connecticut. Lettered three seasons in baseball.

Omar Fortt: Defensive Back | 6’1” 190 | St. Luke’s HS | New Canaan, CT
Played for Noel Thomas Sr., father of former Huskies wide receiver Noel Thomas, at St. Luke’s HS. Brother Khairi played at Penn State and Cal before being drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the Fourth Round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Khairi is currently playing for the Washington Redskins. Junior season recorded 65 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, one sack, three forced fumbles and two interceptions.

T.J. Gardner: Linebacker | 6’2” 227 | Windsor HS | Windsor, CT
Named 2016 Walter Camp Foundation First Team All-Connecticut member. 2016 First Team All-CHSCA.

Cameron Hairston: Wide Receiver | 6’3” 180 | Lee’s Summit North | Lee’s Summit, MO Played in 20 games and combined for 104 catches for 1717 yards with 15 touchdowns in
two seasons.

Robert Holmes: Offensive Line | 6’5” 330 | Oxbridge Academy | West Palm Beach, Fla. 2016 First Team All-Area Member

Stanley Hubbard: Offensive Line | 6’3” 300 | St. John’s College High School | Chevy Chase, DC 2016 USA Today First Team All-USA D.C. offensive linemen

Robert P. King III: Cornerback | 5’11” 180 | Father Judge | Philadelphia, Pa
Played four seasons for head coach Mike McKay at Father Judge. Played quarterback and defensive back. This past season (2016) threw for 1796 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed for 539 yards and seven more touchdowns.

Jordan McAfee: Quarterback | 6’4” 200| Everett High School | Everett, Mass. 2016 Second Team MIACC All-State Quarterback. Threw for 211 yards and a pair of
touchdowns to win the Division 1 Super Bowl in Massachusetts.

Abiola Olaniyan: Cornerback | 5’11” 180 | Woodberry Forest HS | Woodberry Forest, Va.
Senior season (2016) at Woodberry Forest played in 10 games, recorded 29 tackles, two tackles for loss and 17 passes defended. His junior year (2015) played in 10 games registered 33 tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and 10 passes defended.

David Pindell: Quarterback | 6’1” 185 | Lackawanna CC | Columbia, MD
Last season was with Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa. In his sophomore season (2016) was 157-257 (63.6%) for 2,424 yards, 31 touchdowns. Also rushed for 459 yards and eight touchdowns on 94 carries.

Jordan Swann: Cornerback |5’9” 165 | Saint Frances Academy | Baltimore, MD
Played one season at St. Frances Academy (2016). Won 2016 MIAA State Championship. Ranked second in the state in interceptions with 10 interceptions (2016). Played on both sides of the ball, wide receiver and cornerback through high school career.

Ian Swenson: Safety | 6’1” 180 | Loyola Academy | Wilmette, Ill.
Played for John Holecek at Loyola Academy. Recognized as a Blue-Grey All-American. First Team All-Area Pioneer Press and First Team All-Area North Shore Prep. Won 2015 8A State
Championship. Finished runner-up in 2016 8A State Championship. Won 2014 Prep Bowl Championship. Lettered in Lacrosse

Caleb Thomas: Nose Guard | 6’1” 275 | Mansfield High School | Mansfield, TX 2016 First Team All-District (DT)

James Tunstall: Offensive Line | 6’5” 315 | Lackey High School | Indian Head, MD During junior and senior seasons (2015 & 2016), combined for 25 pancake blocks in 20
career games.

Ryan Van Demark: Offensive Line | 6’7” 265 | The Hun School of Princeton | Princeton, N.J.
Played under head coach Tom Smith for one season at The Hun School of Princeton. Named First Team All-State Prep and First Team All-MAPL. Lettered in Volleyball. Was a First Team All-County performer. Member of the National Honor Society.

Marvin Washington: Quarterback | 6’2” 195 | Dr. Phillips High School | Orlando, Fla.
Led Dr. Phillips to 2016 Class 8A State Championship. Completed 160-273 (58%), logging 2,129 yards and recording 21 touchdowns. Led team in rushing with 659 yards on 93 carries, averaging 7.1 yards per carry and rushed for three touchdowns.

David Williams: Running Back| 6’1” 220 | University of South Carolina | Philadelphia, Pa
2016: Played in 9 games, rushed for 253 yards on 56 attempts with three touchdowns. 2015: Played in all 12 games, making four starts. Was third on the team with 299 yards
rushing on 86 carries. Also caught 11 passes for 93 yards.
2014: Played in nine games as a redshirt freshman… logged 256 yards on 45 carries, a 5.7 average… scored a pair of touchdowns… also caught seven passes for 99 yards
2013: Redshirted as a true freshman.
HIGH SCHOOL: Rushed for 1,904 yards on 195 carries (9.8 per rush) with 23 touchdowns as a senior at Imhotep Charter in Philadelphia. Led the Panthers to a 14-1 record in 2013. Earned first-team All-City honors as a junior when he fell just short of 2,000 yards rushing. Was a four-star recruit, the eighth-best player in the state and the 21st-best running back in the country according to Rivals.
