It is now almost 1 a.m. on Monday, March 31. It’s the day after the NCAA East Regional final and, no, you weren’t dreaming. The UConn Huskies are headed to their fifth Final Four and still in the hunt for the school’s fourth national championship in men’s basketball.
Kevin Ollie and his coaching staff came up with another outstanding game plan. Shabazz Napier led another historic comeback, as the Huskies rallied from nine down and UConn celebrated another Madison Square Garden Party. Remember Ray Allen’s floater against Georgetown? Remember Taliek Brown? Remember Madison Square Gordon and Kemba Walker with the step-back jumper?
Well, add this 60-54 victory over Michigan State to the long list of special memories in New York City. And UConn fans should take credit as well. I’ve been covering the NCAA tournament since 1979 and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team enjoy such a homecourt-away-from-homecourt advantage in a regional final.
If you are going to North Texas for the Final Four, be sure to pick up a copy of the official program. On Sunday night, I filed a feature on the East Regional champions from UConn and it will appear in the program published by the NCAA and IMG College.
After writing that piece, I hopped on a train from Penn Station and came home to Connecticut. I’ll pull together my final thoughts from the East Region Monday morning and post here. There will be news from the Final Four coaches off a conference call Monday and UConn is expected to have a media availability on Tuesday. I’ll be headed to Dallas on Wednesday night, so check back every day for posts on the Huskies, Florida and all the news from Jerry Jones Land.
Late Sunday night, UConn released Final Four travel information. As a public service, we pass that important information on to you right now. Here’s the UConn plan:
