ARLINGTON, Texas – Some UConn notes from the 63-53 win over Florida Saturday night at the Final Four:
– Coach Kevin Ollie is the first coach to reach the national championship game within his first two seasons since interim coach Mike Davis led Indiana to the 2002 title game.
– UConn is now 4-1 in national semifinal games and 7-1 overall in the Final Four. The Huskies hold the all-time winning percentage in Final Four games, now at .875.
– UConn is 5-0 in Final Four games in the state of Texas. The Huskies won two in San Antonio in 2004 an two in Houston in 2011.
– DeAndre Daniels finished with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds, making him the first with 20 and 10 in a national semifinal since Syracuse’s Carmelo Anthony in 2003. UConn is 8-0 when Daniels scores 18 points or more.
– UConn closed out the game making nine of its last 10 field goal attempts.
– The Huskies are 25-3 when leading at the half.
– In their last three Final Four games (two in 2011 and Saturday), the Huskies have held opponents to 29.7 percent (52 of 175) shooting from the field.
– Kentucky advances to the championship game for the second time in three years and will be looking to win its ninth national title.
– UConn is 3-1 all-time against Kentucky.
– Kentucky has won 11 consecutive NCAA games since losing to the Huskies 56-55 in 2011.
– Kentucky’s five NCAA wins have come by a combined 18 points. The last four have come by five points or less.
