Perhaps NCAA athletes across the country should join together and throw a parade just for Shabazz Napier.

The NCAA Legislative Council Tuesday approved a rule that will provide unlimited meals and snacks to “student-athletes” – including walk-on players. This provision, which still must be approved by the Division I Board of Directors on April 24, goes beyond the current meal plan which allows for three meals a day or a food stipend for scholarship athletes.

The action comes just days after Napier, UConn’s All-American guard, drew attention to the issue when he said in an interview that he often went to bed hungry because he didn’t have money to buy a meal or snack.

“Today we took action to provide meals to student-athletes incidental to participation,” said Mary Mulvenna, chair of the Councile and associate commissioner of the America East Conference. “I think the end result is right where it needs to be.”

Power to the Bazz.
