Guard Jalen Adams, considered a Top 50 recruit in the class of 2015, announced his oral commitment to UConn and coach Kevin Ollie Monday morning.
“I Have Officially Decided That I Will Continue To Pursue My Dream At The University Of Connecticut And Play For Coach Kevin Ollie #Huskies,” Adams tweeted at 10:14 a.m.
Adams, a 6-2 guard from Cushing Academy (Mass.) and Roxbury, Mass., was a top priority from the 2015 Class for Ollie and his staff.
“The relationship I built with the coaching staff made it feel like a family and made me feel like they all had my best interest at heart,” Adams told CBSSports.com. “Plus the style of play fits me well.”
ESPN Recruiting Nation ranks Adams 33rd among seniors in its top 100 with a scout grade of 89. Creighton, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Minnesota, Providence, Rhode Island and Tennessee also offered Adams a scholarship.
Adams is from Roxbury, Mass., also the hometown of former UConn guard Shabazz Napier, who won two national championships at UConn and was drafted by the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft last week.
“Seeing what Coach Ollie did with a local guard from where I’m from, it definitely made a difference,” Adams told ESPN.com, “and made me believe that if I put in the same amount of work that I could potentially end up with a similar opportunity.”
Adams, a combination guard who thinks scoring first, has made several visits to UConn and was on campus Sunday with his parents. He will arrive at UConn with great offensive confidence. ESPN ranks him 10th among shooting guards in the class.
UConn now has two commitments from the Class of 2015. Point guard Willie Jackson of Athens Christian School in Athens, Ga., committed to the Huskies in February.
