Cincinnati breaks into FoxSports power rankings

Do you realize that in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today Coaches Poll, there isn’t a single team from the American Athletic Conference receiving one single vote? Not one vote.

That’s a lot of disrespect. UConn began the season in the polls, of course. But that three-game losing streak to West Virginia, Texas and Yale took the Huskies out of everyone’s mind. (A win over Duke Thursday night might help.)

AAC teams haven’t recorded many notable victories. In fact, after UConn’s loss to Duke Thursday night, AAC teams are 1-10 against ranked opponents.

I was impressed with Cincinnati’s defense Wednesday night as the Bearcats defeated a very good San Diego State team. So when I completed by college basketball power rankings for FoxSports.com this morning, I  put Cincinnati in the mix at No. 25.

Why not? It’s fun to think outside the box.
