Boatright gets it right again for UConn

HARTFORD, Conn. – In the aftermath of UConn’s 47-42 victory over Tulsa in the American Athletic Conference semifinals Saturday, you could have witnessed many people walking the hallways of the XL Center and shaking their heads in disbelief.

UConn has worked this type of magic before. Kemba Walker directed the movie in 2011. Shabazz Napier came out with the sequel in 2014. Now it is Ryan Boatright’s turn.

For the second night in a row, Boatright (21 points)brought the Huskies back from dead. UConn was down 10 with just over six minutes to play. Tulsa did not score over the final 6:35, UConn went on 19-4 that decided the game, and Boatright was The Biggest Little Man again. Watch the opening comments of coach Kevin Ollie and Boatright here.

Boatright hit a 3-pointer and made 4 of 4 free throws in the final 1:44. Now the Huskies can almost taste an automatic bid to The Big Dance. One more victory and the Huskies cannot be rejected. UConn plays SMU Sunday (3:15 p.m., ESPN) at the XL Center.

“It’s going to be a fight [against SMU],” he said. ” They’re not going to lay down. They’re the best team in our conference for a reason. We’re prepared. We fought too hard to get where we’re at to lay down tomorrow. I truly believe we’re going to come out on top.

“Doubters doubt us. We like it. We’ve got a chip on our shoulder and we love to prove people wrong.”
