All of those upsets on the first day of the NCAA tournament were fun, right? UAB and Georgia State blew up your office pool brackets. UCLA, aided by a controversial goaltending call, showed Larry Brown and SMU the exit door. Then North Carolina State eliminated Villanova, the No. 1 seed in the East Regional. Wichita State has declared itself King of Kansas, and Xavier has reached the Sweet 16 again.
We are left with 16 survivors and the serious business of perfection continues for Kentucky. Arizona, Wisconsin and Duke remain viable championship contenders and Gonzaga continues to lurk along the sideline as a mysterious threat to the favorites. As usual, it’s all very interesting.
