As the anticipation builds, the question is which team team will select the New Britain native with the record breaking broad jump at the NFL Combine?
Could it be Philadelphia? The Eagles have shown a lot of interest. But there was a lot of speculation Thursday that the Eagles are trying to trade up from No. 20 to No. 2 to get Oregon quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. It didn’t seem that would actually happen but it remains to be seen.
One way or another, Jones could be waiting a long time. He has been mentioned as a possibility at No. 22 (Pittsburgh Steelers), No. 30 (Green Bay Packers) or No. 31 (New Orleans Saints). If Jones doesn’t go in the first round, he will have to wait until Friday to have his name called.
The only UConn player ever taken in the first round was running back Donald Brown in 2009, taken by the Indianapolis Colts. The last Connecticut-born player taken in the first round was Bloomfield’s Dwight Freeney, who went to Indianapolis with the the No. 11 pick in 2002.
