Auriemma leaves hospital, returns home

UConn women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma is out of the hospital and has returned home.

The UConn athletic department released this statement Tuesday afternoon: “UConn head women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma returned home from the hospital on Tuesday morning. He is feeling better and enjoying some time with his family. Coach Auriemma and his family wish to express their appreciation and gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
In an effort to respect the Auriemma family’s privacy, UConn will have no further comment.”

Auriemma had been ill for several days after the UConn women won their fourth consecutive national championship. He missed the championship parade, returned to work and then became ill again.

UConn issued this statement Saturday when the Hall of Fame coach was hospitalized: “After boarding a plane at Bradley International Airport on Saturday morning, UConn head women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma decided to deplane because he was not feeling well. Coach Auriemma had been ill for the last several days and was brought to the hospital for observation where he is resting comfortably.”
