USBWA names Napier District Player of the Year

Shabazz Napier of UConn has been named District I Player of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association for the second consecutive season. Only Napier and Creighton’s Doug McDermott (District (VI) have won the awards in back-to-back seasons.

Derek Kellogg of UMass was named District I Coach of the Year.

ST. LOUIS (USBWA) – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has released its 2013-14 Men’s All-District Teams, based on voting from its national membership of 900-plus.

For each of the nine geographic districts, a player and coach of the year is selected. Three schools – Arizona (Guard Nick Johnson and Coach Sean Miller), Michigan (Guard Nik Stauskas and Coach John Beilein) and New Mexico (Forward Cameron Bairstow and Coach Craig Neal) – can boast the honor of having the district player and coach of the year. Connecticut’s Shabazz Napier (District I) and Creighton’s Doug McDermott (District VI) have earned back-to-back District Player of the Year honors.
