Embiid getting evaluations after foot injury

Former Kansas center Joel Embiid has suffered an injury to his right foot that could threaten his status as the possible the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA draft, ESPN.com reported Thursday.

Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com first reported the injury, which was later confirmed by his agent. The extent of the injury is not known at this time.

“He suffered a foot injury to his right foot sometime over the last few days,” agent Arn Tellem told ESPN’s Andy Katz by phone Thursday. “He’s getting evaluations from various doctors and experts in the field. We’ll know more Friday.”

Tellem also told ESPN.com that it was unlikely Embiid would be doing any more workouts before the June 26 draft. The 7-foot Cameroon native was scheduled to work out for the Milwaukee Bucks later this week. The Bucks currently hold the No. 2 pick.

Luc Richard Mbah a Moute also confirmed the injury.

Other reports said the injury did not occur when Embiid worked out earlier this month for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who have the No. 1 pick. His medical testing reportedly resulted in not much concern, despite the back issues he encountered at Kansas. After averaging 11.2 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 blocks as a freshman, he missed the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments because of his back problems.

If the Cavaliers decide against taking a chance on Embiid they would likely turn to Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins or Duke freshman Jabari Parker.
